Who We Are

Cheshire Home Sparks Estate is a registered welfare residential facility providing residential care for severely mentally and disabled children.  Located in the region of Durban, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa, it currently houses 48 children but has the capacity to provide residential care for up to 60 severely mentally and physically disabled residents.

Our home is actively engaged in Special Stimulation programmes designed to enrich the lives of our children. These programmes include a variety of activities such as bocce, races, and soccer, which serve as stimulating and enjoyable experiences for all participants. The staff at Cheshire Home Sparks Estate have received specialized training from the Department of Education.

This training enables them to deliver passive occupational therapy effectively, enhancing the well-being of our residents.

The recreation room at our facility is a hub of relaxation and entertainment, outfitted with a television and therapeutic music that resonates in each of the residents’ rooms. Additionally, water therapy is a key component of our care offerings, conducted under the vigilant care of trained volunteers in our private pool. Celebrations are an integral part of life at Cheshire Home Sparks Estate. Our residents enjoy birthday and Christmas parties that are generously sponsored by donors, adding joy and festivity to their lives.

OUR PROJECTS

Awning Project

awning

Our children are severely mentally and physically disabled and need to experience outdoor time under shade safe from the hot sun and the rain. We need an awning to keep our children cool whilst enjoying outdoor activities. We appreciate all the help we can get to raise the funds needed to meet this need.

Lapa Project

outdoor-lapa

By providing children with disabilities access to a Lapa it will enhance their well-being and quality of life through outdoor recreation. Outdoor recreation can have various benefits for people with disabilities, such as:

  • Increasing self confidence and happiness
  • Improving physical health, such as muscle strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination

Solar Project

Solar heating Photovoltaic panels on the roof of a house. Hot water heated by the sun in a residential setting to provide domestic hot water, solar hot water also has industrial applications, such as generating electricity. Designs suitable for hot climates can be much simpler and cheaper.

We are looking to expand on our solar power system for our home, as Eskom’s electricity supply is unreliable and expensive. This would help us save money on our electric bill, as well as reduce our environmental impact and support the future of Cheshire Home Sparks Estate. We are grateful for any assistance we can receive to fund this project.

Digitisation Project

digitisation

Cheshire Home Sparks Estate has initiated a digitisation project aimed at enhancing our operational systems and creating efficiencies. We are focusing on digitizing the following areas: patient records, asset management, and inventory.
